So today I parked my Twingo in front of another one at the university, the white one is mine. However upon returning I noticed two Twingos II phase 2 parked next to each other also, a mere 15-20 meters from my car(the purple and the red one behind the trees).
So I guess this means Twingo drivers really like Twingos, or at least they show their solidarity with other Twingo drivers, for driving a tiny econobox, but I’m sure it’s the first one.
Do more of you notice that people with similar cars park next to you sometimes?

I often park next to other Twingos. I genuinely love my car and I had my pick of any modern econobox really. I picked it for a reason. I duno if you’ve driven many of it’s competitors but few are as fun or comfortable.

I was actually shopping for a Fiesta/Clio sized car so I didn’t really drive much of the direct competitors, but then I drove the Twingo and was honestly surprised by its driving dynamics, probably due to it being an old Clio chassis,so I fully agree with you that it is quite fun to drive.

Do you guys not have laws dictating that curb parking is supposed to be in the direction of the flow of traffic? Everywhere I’ve lived, the black Twingo (and the other cars parked that way) would get a ticket.

I’ve driven a Pug 107 a fair bit and it’s horrible in comparison (no offence if anyone reading this owns one haha), most of the others in the segment don’t hold up too well either. Wasn’t impressed at all with the new(ish) Ka. You have to go up to a Fiesta or alike to get something as nice IMO.

Well, the Netherlands are a kind of exclusion to that rule, indeed that is forbidden in most European countries. It does lead to some weird traffic situations sometimes though... However even if the rule would be there, this would still kinda be allowed since our campus security is not very strict with parking rules, since our campus has more cars than parking spots.

“...our campus security is not very strict with parking rules...”
What sorcery is this?!? Mention “campus cop” to anyone who went to college in the U.S. and they will share a story which involves parking, an overzealous campus cop, and at least one ticket.

Well ours first give a warning, threatening with a wheelclamp, and I’ve only actually seen a wheelclamp once, and that car was blocking the entrance of a parking lot, and it was parked half on a curb, so the guy kinda deserved it. The only problem I’ve ever had with campus security is that we were working late in a building which was already closed, and we could not get out any more, they were kinda angry that we hadn’t told them.

I had a rather disappointing encounter with a Dutch fellow some time ago. I was parked and sitting in my car as I was early for presentation. A fellow parked next to me, then proceeded to use my truck as a resting spot for his briefcase and a box and some other assorted gear. He couldn’t see me through my tinted windows, so I rolled down the window on his side. You could imagine his surprise. He was very apologetic once he was caught.
I was also surprised when I went in for the presentation - he was the presenter. He was a consultant engineer who was over here making presentations about improving the levee system around New Orleans. I thought about speaking with him after the presentation (about the material he presented), but he made a point of avoiding me. I decided it was best to ask my questions via e-mail.
I share this story because I wonder whether the boundaries of personal space and private property are rather loose over there. Is it considered ok to just dump your stuff on the car next to you, or was this guy just an ass?

Well, there are probably two kind of Dutch guys, those who are very carefull about their and others posessions, and those who don’t give a shit. So while it is not common to use someones car as a table, there are people who would do this.

I thought that was probably the case, but you never know if it can be chalked up to cultural differences. We have our share of jackasses too.
